"Catch 22" is a book written by Joseph Heller and published November 11th, 1961.
It's a satirical book about World War II. The main character is Yossarian who is a pilot stationed in the island "Pianosa" as part of the Air Force. He has to fly a lot of missions although he doesn't want to and always tries to avoid it somehow, but you can't really avoid them for two reasons, the first one is that they always raise the number of missions and the second one is that there is a catch. Yossarian soon becomes insane and paranoid. He thinks everyone wants to kill him so he wants to flee and fulfill his impossible dream to be immortal. An important subplot is Milo Minderbinder, the epitome of capitalism as every event in combat he seems to turn into a business opportunity.
Yossarian knows that his friend Orr fled to Sweden and that will give him hope to flee as well. Danby tries to stop him but Nately's prostitute, still enraged by Nately's death, wants to stab him but finally he gets to escape and flees.
