Lyrics:
Pearl Harbor was calm one bright Sabbath morning
But trouble and strife were lying in wait
Then out of the sky came hawks of destruction
Piloted by disciples of hate
When bombs filed the air with all of their fury
A story of shame was being unfurled
A coward's desire fell down on Pearl Harbor
Spreading the war all over the world
Oh, someday they'll pay for all of their evil
When all of their schemes are proven in vain
We'll never forget that day in Pearl Harbor
And they'll regret time and again
Oh, what will they say to all of their children?
And how can they look themselves in the face?
Oh what will they do that great judgment morning?
They must go down in mortal disgrace

Analysis
The song “Cowards over Pearl Harbor” written by Fred Rose was performed by Denver Darling on February 22nd, 1942.It’s a slow and sad song because it refers to the moment when Pearl Harbor was attacked in December 1941. It says that the Japanese are cowards for attacking Hawaii without announcing the war and without the US being even directly involved in World War 2, and for this reason the US would make them regret it, stated with: “Oh, someday they'll pay for all of their evil” /“They must go down in mortal disgrace”. It is clearly against the war, saying how Japanese are shameless for destroying Pearl Harbor but you can also understand that it is pro war when he says that they are going to regret it. With it you could say that it is in support of the foreign policy when they get involved because all we want is make justice for America and for this attack.
“How does war affect the individual?” is one of the answered driving questions when he says “We'll never forget that day in Pearl Harbor” “Oh, what will they say to all of their children?”. It clearly gives a meaning of people’s suffering. Another driving question that is answered would be: “What is the cost of war?” which would be “revenge”. The want of making them pay for it was big so the US got directly involved in World War 2.
I agree with the message of this song because the US was only giving support to Great Britain and they weren’t really involved in this war but the Empire of Japan decided to attack them to stop interfering in their problems, although the only thing they reached was making the US angry and get a big enemy involved in war.
